I agree.  I think if saying "Padfoot" had been the key to working the 
mirror, Sirius would have mentioned that to Harry when he gave it to 
him in the first place.  Seems to me the mirror was used by JKR 
primarily to cause Harry a tremendous sense of anguish in that he 
didn't remember the exchange with Sirius as well as to emphasize that 
there really is no turning back after death.
