I think that it's a great thing for the Weasley family to do.  *Everyone* 
should teach their children that money isn't the most important thing in the 
world.  The Weasleys are teaching their children to value intangible things more.  
They may not understand it now, but someday they will.  How do we know that 
the Arthur and Molly haven't told their children that?  Maybe they have told 
them that a thousand times.  I think making Ron wear "girly" robes is a way of 
showing him that looks don't matter.  *That* is massively important as well.  
You wouldn't want Molly to be like my mother, would you?  "Oh, aren't you going 
to wear any make-up?  I didn't know that you were so *unconcerned* with your 
appearance."  (And that is said in the most disrespectful voice ever.)  Ron 
and the rest of his siblings are learning an insanely valuable lesson, and they 
will appreciate it later...as it is with so many things in life.
