Do we actually know that who he heard was James? I know Harry
believes it was James, but Lupin seemed suprised that Harry thought
that he heard Jame's voice. He believed the voice that he heard
telling Lily to take Harry and run was his father's, but we don't
know if it was.

We do know that Harry did hear the voice that belonged to James in
the graveyard with Voldemort. James came out of the wand and spoke
to Harry. Afterwards we don't hear Harry speaking about his father's
voice again. So do we know that both voices matched up?

I would like to believe that James was there the night of October 31,
and that he died protecting Harry and Lily. I just don't know if we
can say that James was the person who tried to tell Lily that
Voldemort was coming.
