Leslie:
No one really knows (yet) why the Dursleys didn't
leave Harry at an orphanage.  In all that we know of
them from cannon it seemed like the first thing to do.
But I can only think of one thing that would prevent
the Dursleys from dumping Harry at an orphanage:
Dumbledore letter.

In first chapter of PS/SS Dumbledore leaves Harry on
the front step of Privet Drive with a letter.  Now, we
don't  know what happened to it (I support the creaky
stair theory but something obviously scared the
Dursleys into keeping Harry.

Hi!  I am a newbie and this is my first post.  My question is, and I hope I do not sound stupid but what was in the letter that Dumbledore left for the Dursleys?  I would love to read some of the speculations.  Thank you.
