Sirius' knife. Who attacked who?

I'm confused here.  Are you suggesting that someone else slashed the 
Fat Lady?  Granted, we only have Peeves comment about Sirius' nasty 
temper, we don't actually hear from the Fat Lady herself, but I tend 
to believe Ron when he says he saw Sirius looming over him with a 
knife in his hands.

 IIRC, Peter did attack Ron. Once Remus started to transform into a 
werewolf, he dropped his wand and broke free or slid out of the 
manacles attaching him to Peter.  At that point didn't Peter seize 
that chance to do something to Ron to knock him out before turning 
into Wormtail and scurrying off?  Sirius was busy first with grabbing 
Harry to keep him away from Remus and then Padfoot-ing to try to keep 
the werewolf away from the kids.
