I think this must be it. Dumbledore says that people have wasted away in 
front of the mirror. Perhaps those were the people who saw the impossible things 
in front of them. They knew they couldn't go out to achieve those dreams, so 
they sat in front of the mirror, wishing, until their lives were through. Harry 
was in danger of that. 

But Ron's vision is actually something he could achieve if he tried hard 
enough. It would be nice to see that scene come to life in the series for Ron.  :)
