Exactly.  That would be the "birth announcement" I mentioned.  By
"personal contact" I meant face-to-face interaction or verbal contact as
with a telephone.  I do think you would need to be willing to at least
talk to someone to become their child's godparent, but talking is not
necessary just to find out that they *have* a child.
