My main question is, how are the twins going to explain where they've gotten 
their nest egg to their family?

I can see them telling small white lies to cover their tracks at times, or 
lying by omission...but honestly, not a big whopper over this amount of 
money.

Does anyone besides me think they might request a private audience with 
their parents, tell them what's happened, firmly insist that they are 
keeping the money because none of the principals want it, and ask them to 
keep it secret from the rest of the family?

I can't see either Arthur or Molly being easy with this; but I also think 
that they're shrewd enough to know that the twins couldn't get such a 
windfall from an anonymous investor or save it up themselves from advance 
sales.
