Darrin -
You're so right on here.

Indeed. It's unfortunate that what Ron has gotten that we've seen has been
somewhat worse for the wear. When shopping at thrift and consignment
stores, you are somewhat at the luck of the draw if your need is specific on
a given day and you don't have the leisure to just browse and go "What a
fortunate find! I'll pick that up because I know I might need it some day,
or my friend or relative will". I have a friend in Colorado who is a
*genius* at thrift and consignment store shopping, and one of the tricks is
to go to stores in or near very posh areas - you can find some excellent
deals on barely used items for a fraction of their original cost.
Sometimes people buy stuff that just doesn't work out, or they get a gift
and can't return it and it goes to a destination like a consignment store.
Some of my favorite clothes come from a nearby one in a good area - 50 cent
skirts that work for work or casual wear and whose greatest flaw seemed to
be a 2-inch section of hem that needed restitching. But the trick is to be
able to be patient and frequent them - and we're shown Molly at a very
rushed state - she seems to have only these limited windows of time to go
buy dress robes, and she has to choose from what's there. It's possible, as
I speculated earlier, that she does better year-round for her household by
being out and about and taking advantage of deals. I suspect that household
management and domestic engineering occupy a *huge* part of her time.
