Voldemort and his muggle hating

Can anyone tell me why LV hates muggles so much when he is part 
muggle?  Is it because his father left his mother?  

I have always found it strange that he would set out on a mission to 
kill muggles fully knowing he is half-blooded.  Do you think all of 
the death eaters know his is not a full blooded wizard?  Is there 
any canon that has stated this?

Luscius Malfoy thinks no muggles at all should be let into school 
and he is LV's biggest supporter.
