Me:
I think that the whole thing about Dumbledore seeing socks is
major symbolism. I think that all he really wants is to be free of
the burden of finally killing Voldemort(or something to that effect,
like saving all of the wizarding world). It is just like Dobby
getting his sock from Malfoy Sr. Dobby is now free to do whatever he
wants, and I think that is why Dubledore wants "socks". He doesn't
necessarily want the socks, he wants the freedom that comes along
with those figurative socks. I figure that it is an easy way for the
Mirror of Erised to show Dumbledore what he really wants, because he
probably can get the symbolism better than say Harry would if he were
shown socks. (But i think Dumbledore would not need the Mirror to
tell him this.)
I could also be really wrong, and Dumbledore doesn't need
anything but to relax with a nice warm pair of socks this weekend.
