Hmm.. Anger or fear. Fight or run. Adrenaline. That IS also the 
situation when you'd need magic - just to survive. The build up 
inside increases with adrenaline, I suppose.

Harry's suppressed anger just HAD to come out - like a balloon with 
as much air as it can take. At Hogwarts Harry usually has other means 
to let out his anger (like yell and snap right back) - but with Aunt 
Marge, he didn't.

And well - I think it's the same magic. Channelling it trough a wand 
makes it stronger and aimed into one spot - like sunlight trough 
magnifying glass.
