I take it the theory going around is that, because of Hagrid's
statement that there wasn't a wizard that went bad that wasn't in
Slytherin, that James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter were all in
Slytherin. I can see how that would be possible, but then why would
Snape hate them?

Talisman in Arizona:
What I thought is that Snape hates them because they almost got him
killed. Snape almost ran after Remus as he was changing into the
werewolf and if he had come face to face with him, he would have been
eaten. Snape seems to hold grudges because when he busted into the
house with Sirius and the others he went off on a tirade about how they
almost got him killed when he was a student.

I don't see any holes because of this. Some people just don't click.
I've always thought that Snape has this rules-are-there-for-a-reason
thing and couldn't stand that James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter messed
around and got away with it.

Talisman in Arizona:
Yes, I agree with this as well. I think Snape's dislike stems from this
as well. A combination of the two, if you will. Which is why I think
he hates Harry so much. Harry, the son of someone who almost got him
killed, is also a huge rule breaker and gets away with it.
