I'm too lazy to quote the whole Shrieking Shack scene in Prisoner of
Azkaban, but it was one of the parts in the HP saga I read as though
the words were leaping from the pages. Fierce loyalty, intense
emotions, vivid characters... it all felt alive. Monsters and sorcery
and whatever might be important elements of fantasy, but on their own
they make rather shallow fiction.
And: "Of course I want to leave the Dursleys! Have you got a house?
When can I move in?" followed by Sirius' first true smile for a
decade. Still makes me grin stupidly. Soppy me.
