Curiously enough, I consider all the elements you mentioned the good
points of CoS. I absolutely loved Lockhart and the Deathday Party. Come
to think of it, you listed the most of the funny elements of CoS as
hindrances to the plot.

Now, I never cared much for CoS. It *is* my least favourite book of the
series. But the humour in it is not responsible for my disliking it.
Quite the contrary, it's what kept me reading it and it's what makes me
flip the pages every now and then to re-read a good joke. No, what I
don't like about CoS is the plot itself and its countless holes and
inconsistencies (which I won't list here because it has been done
before many times). 

Just my humble opinion,
