More rampant speculation, but I seemed to recall at some point someone had made a point that the last chapter of GoF happened later than we thought so I went back and took a look at it last night and found some interesting things.
First, note that the chapter is titled "The Beginning" and begins "When he looked back, even a month later, Harry found he had only scattered memories of the next few days." Based on the audio clip on amazon, Harry has been apart from Ron and Hermione for about a month. So the time Harry is remembering this last chapter is roughly the same point at which Mrs. Weasley takes him to the Mystery House, unless, of course, he's apart from them for a month at some other point which is entirely possible (but, IMHO, unlikely).
Now, what are the scattered memories he has? What is important enough to be mentioned?
A conversation with the Diggorys.
Mrs. Weasley wanting Harry to come straight home with them but Dumbledore having reasons to have him go to the Dursleys.
A visit to Hagrid's where they mention Hagrid's task over the Summer and Hagrid offers this tidbit "'No good sittin' worryin' abou' it, ' he said, 'What's comin' will come, an' we'll meet it when it does.'" Hagrid then changes the subject.
The Leaving Feast, salute to Cedric, Dumbledore telling them it was Voldemort, every guest will be welcomed back, etc.
At one point Harry remembers "It was another beautiful summer's day. He supposed that Privet Drive would be hot and leafy, it's flower beds a riot of color, when he arrived there that evening. The thought gave him no pleasure at all."
Compare that to the previously released opening line:
"The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive. . . The only person left outside was a teenage boy who was lying flat on his back in a flowerbed outside number four."
More and more, I'm thinking the hearing is going to be about Dumbledore's removal as Headmaster, and he'll sit down and tell Harry all because he won't be around anymore.
