It seems to me that there are really very few of the student's whose
pets we see mentioned. I think from the note prior to first year, that
there are probably a lot more pets at Hogwarts than we are lead to
believe from the discriptions. (although many of these are probably
carrier owls so not in the dormatories a lot) Thus, are the ones that
we see mentioned IMPORTANT in some way other than just as pets?
Granted Harry spends most of his time with Hermione and Ron so their
pets would "be around" but I do tend to agree that Trevor has some
importance that we have yet to see, and I'm not subscribing to the
anamangus theory on that one.

One thing that has struck me as odd is Ron's pet (rat in this case) is
hand-me-down (was it from Percy or one of the older boys?, and it
seems important to him...) but do the twins have a pet, or Ginny? or
are these things not important to them? Certainly if they do have a
pet, it isn't an owl since we hear about Hermes being Percy's owl, and
Errol being the family owl, and they never mention borrowing an owl
from any other member of the family (and the twins use a school owl in
GoF)

Was Lee's Pet Spider a foreshadowing to Aragog? Do Seamus or Dean have
pets at school? Lavender has had a rabbit, but it seems to be "at
home"...

Anyone else think the lack of pets strange or the ones that we know
more significant? (I'm not getting into the Croookshanks discussion,
since Hermione selected him out of the petshop, --even if he did make
himself rather known to her-- and I follow the cat/kneazle argument
and leave it at that)
