My initial reply got an edit request so this is my 2nd try.
It is quite ironic for me to see this butterfly thing up on this
board...well here is my full explaination and hope it would ease all
the butterflies in our brains ^o^
Cho Chang has nothing to do with Chuang Chou, it is not the same last
name, in Chinese they differ A LOT. In feudal times they are two
leading last names of two different kingdoms. They are NOT related.

And Cho does NOT mean butterfly. Based on my knowledge of reading
both Japanese version and the Chinese version, where both listed Cho
Chang as Chinese, Cho means "Autumn". Chang does not have a real
meaning but it is one the top 3 used Chinese last name.
Autumn, no butterflies, they'd die at that time...
