Now, for those who know anything about Greek mythology, a Phoenix was reborn
every 500 years. Fawkes is reborn later on in the book. Maybe, just maybe,
there is something that happened 500 years ago that has some
signifigance in the books. I know I said in an eariler post that the
Deathday party was pointless, but maybe I was wrong...
silmariel:
Just a note. Egyptian mythology gives a period of roughly 1400 years for a
Fenix to be reborn. I can't give an exact number, I think the information is
from "The White Goddess" by Robert Graves, anyway I've read it in a Graves'
book.
The number of years equals to (time in a year/annual 'time displacement').
Egyptian year was a little different from solar year, so the months, slowly,
rotated. As it was a circular cycle, every x years 'the fenix' was reborn.
Also, I can't confirm this but I like the idea, I was discussing harry potter
heraldica with my boyfriend (he is a history lover), he's told me lion stands
usually for hippogriff if you seek the explanation for that symbol. You just
could not put a fantastic animal into your shield (even the unicorn was
difficult). Everything non-christian was just a no.
