Hi.
I haven't posted before, found the list between books. But I just
finished OOP and have been waiting to talk.
This isn't really specific and spoilery, just a little.
I enjoyed it a lot, and am working on the second read.
I thought the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor was
interesting, even in how she was named. Umbridge sounds like
'umbrage,' which I felt ws intentional since she took offense at small
comments and had really extreme reactions. And also that she had a
very strict idea of 'proper' behavior. I looked the word up, too, and
see that 'umbrage' can also mean shade (the same root is used for
umbrella) and I think that fits too. Through the book, she casts an
increasingly dark shadow over the school and its operations.
I am at a loss about why the rest of the faculty didn't appear to be
trying to thwart her more, and why parents weren't more involved. And
I wish somebody had been assigned to evaluate her study hall style of
teaching.
I'm still digesting the rest, but I wanted to share that observation.
Ms. Rowling seems to have such fun with names!
Thanks for making the forum available and interesting.
