OOP: Taryn's OotP Thoughts and Questions

Well, that only took 12 hours. Yeesh. I wrote notes as I went along so I would remember stuff I wanted to mention and ask on the list. ^_^ Here we go.

1) Ah-hah! We now have PROOF that those Snape-DADA rumors have a foundation! That's nice to know. Wow, applied every year...

2) I would've liked an actual explanation as to how Harry got the Marauder's Map back. I suppose Dumbledore must've given it to him.

3) I'd like to know who the Slytherin boy is that can see the thestrals.

4) Didn't someone on the list have an idea about portraits spying? There ya go. ^_~

5) The Black House heritage came as a surprise, but an interesting one. Were the an all-Slytherin gang like the Malfoys?

6) And people say there's no R/Hr shipping hints... Ron gets Hermione PERFUME for Christmas? Not to mention his reaction to her kiss before the Quidditch game. If anything, there's no H/Hr shipping hints. WOW, is Hermione's behavior to Harry /so/ utterly platonic. She couldn't possibly be liking Harry and act the way she does about him and Cho.

7) Positively LOVED the Lockhart cameo! And the subsequent scene with the Longbottoms. I knew that was coming as soon as the words "long-term ward" came out.

8) Holy Hell, do Snape and Sirius despise each other. My God.

9) We now have an explanation of Voldemort's lie-detector. Nice.

10) Not only does Snape refer to Voldemort as the Dark Lord, but he yells at Harry for referring to him as Voldemort. Hmm.

11) I'm loving both Neville and Ginny's development. They're both coming into their own very nicely.

12) It's nice to see that even though McGonogall thinks Trelawney's a total fraud, she bands with her against Umbridge. God, I hated Umbridge.

13) Oh. My. God. I feel so, utterly...betrayed by James. /And/ Sirius. Snape is so, incredibly...hurt. What with those childhood memories Harry saw in the lessons, to that long memory Harry saw in the Pensieve... I cried at the end of that chapter. For Snape's obviously horrible childhood, and for Harry now having to deal with what a total jerk his father was at 15.

14) Nice to see Sirius' gift came in handy.

15) I'm stupidly proud of myself for immediately figuring out SPT to APWBD was Trelawney's first prophecy, said to Dumbledore. Whee.

I liked the book. Very, very angsty. Very /angry/. I mean, God, is Harry angry. And with good reason, but there were times when I just wanted to say, "Get over yourself. Stop acting like a jerk to your friends." But the tone of the entire book is very different, and Harry is so...15.
