Jon:
So, it's finally out. Feels strange, doesn't it? Anyhow, had to
write a review just to work out my own thoughts, and naturally
enough it contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the whole book. Short non-
spoiler version : Me like.

Oh, and one other thing - can someone explain to me Harry and
Sirius's relationship? I just don't understand why Harry
feels so much closer to Sirius than Lupin, both of whom were his
parent's friends who now care for him. Lupin helped him out for a
whole year, while he only knew Sirius for a couple of days. Yet when
he wants to talk about something they both know in Snape's
memory,
it's instinctively Sirius he goes to.

Me:
Ooh, I'd love to try to talk about this. I think it mostly has to do with Lupin's behavior towards Harry during the school year. Yes, he helped him out, gave him anti-Dementor lessons, but he never allowed their relationship to go past teacher-student. Remember when Harry's telling him about what happens when the Dementors get near him, and Lupin makes that motion as if to grip Harry's shoulder, but then doesn't? He's keeping professional distance. He won't allow himself to get personal and, as a teacher, he was right to do so. Sirius is family. He's Harry's godfather, invites Harry to live with him, and is, in every way, personal with Harry. If Harry had written Lupin, would Lupin have written back? Probably, and in a less professional manner, now that he's not a teacher. He also would have probably given some better advice. Sirius, as we know, has a tendancy towards danger and rashness. But since Lupin kept a professional distance with Harry during the schoolyear, Harry doesn't feel that relationship that Sirius immediately started into when it first appeared they were going to live together.
