OK, I saw a lot of themes that reminded me of some of my favorite
books:
1984: Pretty obvious, and it's even called the Ministry in both
cases. They control the news, believing that they therefore control
reality.
Atlas Shrugged: Again, denying reality in order to avoid the truth.
Also, at the end, when Umbridge tries to use crucio on Harry, it
reminded me of the way the tortured Galt, and how everyone got so
much pleasure out of it (Malfoy must have been frothing at the mouth
for her to do it). In general, the way the government's denial
brings about its downfall (the ministry is not in a very happy place
at the end) made me think of Atlas Shrugged.
Ender's Game: I think we will see a lot of Ender's Game stuff
happening in the next books. It's only a matter of time before the
students rally together and stop competing for the House cup. I was
really expecting it to happen in this book. Hermione seems to have
caught on, she says quidditch divides them, and the Sorting Hat says
it outright. I figured the DA would lead the students and it would
expand to the whole school, except of course for the Slytherins.
Also, I think in 6&7 we will see a lot of changes to the way
Hogwarts is run, so that Dumbledore will actually start training an
army, pushing the advanced students to be Aurors way ahead of
schedule, just like they push Ender and his gang at the end.
Any others?
