Yes, I was very disappointed with the prophecy...I kept on waiting
for more to come out...but nooooooo. It was, very, very "duh". Even
the room with the prophecies..the doorways...I remember reading
about it a month ago about that and finding it very compelling- but
it wans't in the novel. We know Rowling can write convincing
nightmares...but this didn't seem so. Then again...they
weren't...*nightmares* were they?

As for Neville, I felt that Dumbledore cast him off to the side
rather too quickly. I think there's more going on here. Voldemort
seems to have created a self-fufilling prophecy..but...doesn't
anyone ever notice...In almost every book, Voldemort has wanted
Harry alive. I believe there was talk of transfering power to, was
there not? Maybe Neville has a larger role in this, something I have
wondered since the end of the first book.

As for Sirius...I have to say, Rowling was ruthless...but it was an
excellent choice (oh that's so horrible to say). Who would've ever
suspected Sirius? I chatted with many at a Barnes & Noble
party...and Sirius' name was never mentioned. Lupin's was- but not
Sirius. Most people's bets were on Hagrid. And she toyed with us!
Hagrid missing for the first half, turns up bruised and then that
warning from Firenze! Mr. Weasley and his snakebite. That entire
awful scene at the end where you didn't know...but you knew it was
going to happen, to someone- but who? Killing off Sirius was perfect
for Rowling. The character could do nothing more but offer Harry
moral support and love and friendship in a limited but important
way...and his death cut Harry to the core. It hurt us all. If anyone
else had died...it would have been expected, anti-climatic or far,
far too much to take. There were a few awful seconds where I though
Hermione was dead...that would've been too much to bare.

I'm rather glad Cho and Harry are out of the way. Rowling and Harry
both admitted that Cho was a crush. Those that remember being 15
will remember how crushes turn out. I'm rather glad Harry 'went-out'
with her and it was icky and uncomfortable and not all he thought it
was cracked up to be. Far better than having our hero mope around
about his love life, eh?

overall.

As for character development, I think that the character of Ginny
was really...well, developed. I used to dislike Ginny, but now she's
one of my favorites. Once again, after the crush has gotten out of
the way, the character can act more naturally.

Was it just me, or did OotP seem to go by a little faster than
Goblet of Fire? I mean, I know it sounds ridiculous seeing as how it
was longer...but just wondering if I'm alone.
