I agree. Actually, this is in the book itself, isn't it? Dumbledore 
says, "Voldemort himself would mark him as his equal...he chose the 
boy he thought most likely to be a danger to him" (OoP, 742). I 
think it's pretty clear that Rowling's telling us that it wasn't 
necessarily Harry who was foreordained to defeat Voldemort, but that 
Voldemort chose the boy who would be part of the prophecy, based on 
who was the greater threat, and proceeded to bind them through the 
curse scar (the "mark").
