This is related, but kind of off the subject. JK said before the
book came out that this had a lot to do with choices, going back to
DD's comment about "it's the choices we make" that decide who we
are. This is apparent in the death of Sirius, but what about the
prophecy? How true could this prophecy possibly be as it would etch
in stone the outcome? DD says that the reason Harry is the chosen
one is because of his heart, because of his damn it all attitude
when it comes to something he's passionate about. Part and parcel
with that it seems to me is the unwillingness to accept the odds,
the rules. Harry is always hailed as having a certain disregard for
the rules. At the end of GoF when faced to Voldy and nowhere to go,
he refused to accept his death and was able to find a way out.
Perhaps, the reason Harry is able to beat Voldemort is because he is
the only one who won't accept a ridiculous prophecy at face-value
and will find another way. How does everyone else weigh in on
this? What other ways does anyone think the prophecy idea weighs
against JK's theme of choices?
