This is my first post to this forum even if I've read it for some
time but never dare to post. But with the coming of ootp I want to
share my first thoughts and feeling.

So after having read as far as I can (about 8 hours) This are my
first impression :

I find it quite surprising indeed It was so far everything I've
imagined for this volume for example the relation between Ron and
Hermione, the general feeling.

THE Good :

Very surprising : JKR menage to create suspense and OOTP is quite
different of what I've imagined.

The beginning is great with the collision between the muggle and the
magic world in a few chapter a lot happen from Harry been expelled
to to Dementor and hearing that was a really great part.

The history of Sirius family was really interesting with the
genealogical tree which show what is a pure blood family and what
can be their relation in the wizzard world. They are very self
focused.

Angry Harry : this is logical with the backstory but gave some
change with the previous books and make him made some mistake.

The sorting hat song which show a close friendship between Slytherin
and Gryffinndor and called for an union of the fourth houses of
hogwarth (But I'm still disturbed by the lack of nice slytherin
character) . By the way Hermione is right : Quidditch really divided
people .

A great description of the rise of a tyrannical power. For some time
I've found Umbridge worse than Voldemort indeed she is really
realistic in her action in order to control Hogwart ( suspend all
organisation and create just her own, create her personal Police
taht remind me a bit of the politic of the Nazi in Germany in 1933)

The relation between Cho and Harry I think it was describe in a
realistic way with two people having problem to explain their
feeling and the end of their relation allow an upcoming Harry and
Hermione ship (I'm a huge H/H shipper).

The sad tales of Snape treatment by James and company ; that make
James more real, more flawed I hope that in the future we learn more
about Lily and discover that she was also human with some flaw

What surprise me :

No quidditch for harry : this is logical allowing Harry to do other
thing than play quidditch and create a great frustration and allow
to have Ginny more time screen.

The absence of development of H/R shipping. After GOF I've waited
for some development at least from the Ron side but unless I've
miss
some hint (I'm French and English is not my first language so I
can
have miss some hints ) there are nothing like that.

The death of Sirius I would have more expected Hagrid or Dumbledore
(but I think it's too early for a dumbledore death which can
occur
only in the last books otherwise the structure of the Harry world
would be perturbed).

The introduction of a news characters :
Luna . I would not have thought of new character would have been
introduced so late in the serie she seems to have an important place
for the future
Tonks : after she was introduced I would have sworn that she will be
the next DADA teacher but I was wrong.

The come back of Lockart even for few pages this was really
unexpected and is finely introduced.

The idea of Dumbledore army was great and that show that if Harry
can't become Auror ha can became teacher

What Puzzled me :

I wonder if the main plot is not too weak indeed OOTP is great by
showing a year in Harry life but what is the main plot (Voldemort
try to get the prophecy ? Umbridge control of the school? ) .and
will not news reader be puzzled if they began by OOTP.

The absence of explanation of the gleam of triumph of dumbledore
with the true explained I still not understand this.

Conclusion :

I've really liked OOTP and as soon I've read the last page I
want to
read more of Harry it was worth the three years wait (even if I woud
like that JKR write the remaining volumes faster because another
three years wait would be horrible)
