I'm having a "what was the point" kinda time here about the books.

To elaborate:

Sirius Black is declared guilty of all those deaths without trial,
manages to stay sane for over a decade in Azkaban, escapes and meets
his parentally challenged godson, establishes a parental relationship
with said godson, is out for less than three years and....

he gets snuffed....

So, I repeat?

What was the point for him?

The poor man basically had no life at all, spent nearly half of it
either in prison wrongfully or on the lam, is never cleared and
that's about it - so sorry, Messrs. Black and Potter.

Anyone else having similar resentments about that whole thing?

Now me (Wendy):

I'm not sure I'm feeling resentful - I am sad that Sirius is dead, and I
know that when I read the books again it's going to change the way I look
at things. But, to give my answer to your question "What's the point" - I
think the answer is "Tragedy." I don't know why JKR wrote it this way, and
perhaps some plot motive will become clear later. But for me, right now, I
find it utterly tragic that he spent 12 years in Azkaban, spent three years
out but as a fugitive, including a long stint in that awful house with
Kreacher. And now he's dead. It totally sucks, I find it tragic, but I also
find it disturbingly real. In the real world, there are people who have
awful lives and then they die. There's not always a happy ending (or a
happy beginning or middle, either). Rather depressing, but also sometimes
the way life is. Of course, as readers of a work of fiction, perhaps we
have a different expectation and want there to be a "point." (I'm with you
there, really. I am really upset about Sirius dying without really having
lived for the past decade and a half. I haven't actually cried about it
yet, but that will come once it really sinks in, I think). But sometimes,
maybe, there isn't a point. I don't know if that's what JKR is trying to
say to us, or not, but it's the message I'm getting from what I read.

Just my thoughts. :-)
