I think it was a teenage pride thing.  He had to be
rescued.  By a girl, by a mudblood, by a GRYFFINDOR. 
And that's why he reacted as he did.  Doesn't justify
it, but I do think that's his motivation.

I have to believe it's accurate.  Dumbledore never
mentioned, when it was explained to Harry, any
warnings of bias affecting it.  And Sirius and Remus
pretty well confirmed that was the general tone of
their behavior.  Oh, and I believe it is objective
because we do no see through the eyes of the
rememberer.
