It wasn't until 2 days before the book came out that I started even
thinking that it would be Sirius. I sort of wish I'd never popped into
the thread onmy discussion board that suggested it. I started getting
paranoid. I can sort of understand why she did - for character
development. But how much more loss does this kid need? Is it going to
be his anger that will ultimately help him defeat Voldemort?

I had the feeling that the curse is NOT what killed Sirius, but that it
was going through the veil. And that makes me wonder - is the veil that
access door the afterlife? Luna seemed to think that because they could
hear voices on the other side of the veil, that it's possible to see the
dead again. I wonder also if only folks who've seen death are able to
hear the voices like being able to see the Threstals.

I wonder if the veil is a door, like I said above. I also wonder that if
you are alive while going through that you end up in a state of flux or
something when you reach the other side. Can you come back?

I sort of wondered this myself.

Not sure, but I have a question regarding the prophecy. Was Harry an
oridnary wizard before he was attacked? Dumbledore said in book 2 that
he gaines some of Voldemorts powers. But now it seems that when
Voldemort attacked him, that much more than just Voldemorst powers were
transferred, but that some mystical higher power was granted to Harry.
And I'm not sure I followed this whole "Your heart saved you" bit that
Dumbledore was talking about. What's this super power that Harry has
that he's not aware of?

I thought that the Snake was actually Voldemort. We saw everything from
Voldemort's point of view in the dreams.

Rowling stated that Harry would have a new pet at some point, though I
don't know if this will be the reason.

I don't hate Harry, I just feel very sorry for him. Losing yet more of
anyone seems like real family. He's always got his friends, and now we
know there's a new family for him brewing at the end of the book. But
had he used the mirror - he would've know Sirius was ok.
This enitre loss with Sirius is just heartwrenching. I hate how quiet
the death was too. The room was so full of commotion that it's almost
like no one would've noticed. That stupid veil. It better show, because
I want to know what secret it's holding - just like the Mirror or Erised.
>And after Sirius died, he broke the mirror! That's the
>last gift your godfather gives you...instead of
>looking after it, you smashed it?!

But didn't you also hope that Sirius had taken his mirror? I so hoped
that Sirius would just show up in the mirror. But alas - Rowling is
giving a very clear picture of death in the Potterverse. It's final. I
was very glad to find out about the ghosts though.

I feel exactly the same way. He was truly my favorite character in the
book. I don't think you are silly at all. In fact, I think you're with a
rather large group of people who really didn't want to see him die.
Before all the baords and lists shut down on Friday, I'd mentioned (on a
discussion board), that I could really deal with the death of any of the
characters except Harry and Sirius. Honestly - she could whack Hermione,
Ron, Dmbledore, Lupin, and Tonk. But tnot those two. ARgh! I can
udnerstand it from a character development point of view. What this does
to Harry. It makes him more isolated and much less like anyone else. But
come on! He's truly a marked man at this point. How much more does this
boy need?
And what about Dubmledore? I'm glad to see that he's taking part
responsiblity in this mess. His perfect plan. Had he only told Harry
what the dreams were. And why did he need to worry about looking Harry
in the face since Voldemort wouldn't be able to possess him anyway?
I'm going to have to ponder all of this....a bit more. I just finished
reading. I feel more satisfied though with this story more than I did
with GoF.
Take care
Kristin
