In furtherance of my new and rapidly expanding theory of a WWII allegory with 
the books, I think JKR is showing us that ignorance and willingness 
(eagerness even) to turn a blind eye is just as dangerous as evil intent.  That the 
quest for personal power simply for powers sake can bring about blindness to evil 
right under our noses.
