I have some questions and thoughts about the Department of Mysteries. Those
who have not yet read the book would do well to cover your eyes and move on.
Well, just thought I'd give a fair warning.

Page 861, OOP, American Edition:
""I know nothing of the secrets of death, Harry, for I chose my feeble
imitation of life instead. I believe learned wizards study the matter in the
Department of Mysteries -----" -Nearly Headless Nick

Forgive me if this has been discussed already, but this thought came into my
mind; could the Department of Mysteries really be more about trying to
discover the secrets to life and death than in doing anything like
protecting the Wizarding World? Are they really more of a group of Wizards
and Witches who have dedicated themselves to tackling the philosophical and
theological aspects of Wizarding life? It seems to me that the objects that
the gang came across, the brains for instance, which appear to me to be a
source of knowledge left for other wizards to use. Brains that Wizard
predecessors of the Department left behind so that other wizards could gain
knowledge from and ask questions to amoung other things. Perhaps that is why
the department is so wrapped up in mystery and why it is so hard to find
your way around. Descartes had to lock himself away in a room to discover
the truth, perhaps these wizards and witches are doing something similar to
him?

-Lost Feyth
Lurker extraordinaire, who is happy that she can finally come out of the
lurking corner in the dark. Shes far too pale as it is to be spending all
of her time in the shadows. ^_~

Is there any person in the world who does not dream? Who does not contain
within them world unimagined? -Narrator

But he did not understand the price. Mortals never do. They only see the
prize, their heart's desire, their dream... But the price of getting what
you want is getting what you once wanted. -Dream
