Didn't interpret it that way. I thought it was kind of obvious:
neither can live while the other survives. It doesn't exactly, imho,
explain the previous part, "either must die at the hand of the other".
And Dumbledore did clarify it in the end after all, when he answers
Harry's question on whether he has to eventually kill Voldemort.
