I am sure that everyone has already done OoP to death, but I really must talk about it or I am going to explode! Unfortunately, I finished the book rather quickly (Saturday night) and as of now (Sunday night) none of my friends are up to scrtach... grr... Anyway, I find that I must talk some and see what all people say.
I about cried when Sirius died! I had it set on anyone dying but him. I was prepared for Snape, Hagrid, Lupin, Percy, Neville, and even McGonagall. I was devastated. I also felt that the way in which he died was far too understated for such a marvelous character. I felt Cedric's was much more noble and that I almost didn't catch the fact that he was actually gone! Horrible.
I love that we find out that Sirius is related to all of those nasty Death Eaters. Also, that he is distantly related to the Weasleys which, by default would also make Draco related to the Weasleys which would have to drive him nuts.
I loved Kreacher! Did anyone else? He was so .... evil and the way she had him talk in third person? Fabulous.
I couldn't believe Percy, though. I guess it comes from his being so enamored with Fudge and power and the whole running of the MoM.
Harry using the cruciatus curse did surprise me a bit, but I think it is to prepare us for the moment when he will eventually be forced to use Avada Kedavra on Voldemort. We know that has to be coming because of the prophecy.
I must say that Snape and Trewlawney have gained a great deal of repesct in my book. Though both as annoying as ever in their own ways, I had to love how Trewlawney's prediciton was brought in at the end. Great.
Did anyone else think Harry was a bit of a whiny baby-butt? I couldn't believe that he was constantly complaining. I mean, yes he is brilliant and all, but get over yourself. The only thing I can chalk it up to is his being 15. (I have a 15 yr old sister so I am currently getting PLENTY of experience with the age).
I give many kudos to McGonagall for being as great as ever. Talk about superb actions against Umbridge (whom I despise and agree with another listee that she deifinitely won the award for "Most Hated Teacher Ever"-sorry listee who made this comment, but i can't remmeber your name).
I love all of the new characters and also her great use of sarcasma nd subtlety in this book. Did anyone else think it was much more funny than any of the other four? I laughed a ton.
I only wish that this post weren't already so long because I could go on and on but I feel much better now that I have said much of what I wished to say so I will go ahead and quit typing now. Sorry to other listees for the length... little over zealous in my post;-)
