Regarding the prophecy, there seems to be a lot of discussion here
and in other groups about Voldemort messing up the prophecy so
here's my take on it. I believe that Voldemort was MEANT to find out
about the prophecy and therefore fulfill the first part of it. By
attacking Harry, Voldemort "marked" him as the one he most feared
would rise to his level of power. It's entirely possible that
Neville Longbottom would have been in Harry's place if Voldemort had
chosen to go after him that Halloween night instead of Harry.
Without that mark, and Voldie's subsequent downfall, that first part
of the prophecy would not have come to pass.
Secondly, there's confusion about what was meant by the
phrase "either must die at the hand of the other for neither can
live while the other survives." I think that this is being taken
much too literally. Harry must kill Voldemort or vice versa but can
either of them truly be considered as "living"? Voldie was a spirit
in the forest for years before Wormtail returned to him and
Harry's "life" has been full of nothing but misery from his parents'
deaths to Sirius's more recent one. Just as Voldemort is a threat to
Harry, so too is Harry a threat to him and that threat is what
prevents them from living as they mean to.
On another note, I think it's interesting that Neville was
mentioned in connection to the prophecy. We've learned that nothing
in HP is mentioned without good reason and so I think this will be
significant in the next two books.
 Any thoughts?

-Sara
