I wonder if Sirius or Remus have ever considered the possibility that
the Snape that is now teaching at Hogwarts might be a result of what
they once did to him at school. Let's face it : Snape was a child
like all the others. He wasn't born as a nasty , sarcastic bastard.
IMHO , that's what Rowling wanted us to realize when she showed us
Snape's childhood memories.
Yes, a great deal of what became of Snape has probably been caused by
his abusive father , but the Marauders' bullying sent him over the
edge.
I actually can't blame Snape for not forgiving Sirius. Sirius is ,
like you already pointed out , even proud of what he did during their
schooldays. This already shines through in PoA when he tells Harry
about the "prank" in the Whomping Willow. He even thought
Snape "deserved it". Why ? Just because he existed (like James told
us in OoP)?
This really shocked me. And they were just 15 back then ! Poor Snape
never recovered for all his life ! I wouldn't be surprised if he
joined the Deatheaters because he finally wanted revenge on all the
people who made his life hell (his parents , his fellow students ,
his teachers).
In PoA and also in OoP I got the impression that Lupin is fully aware
of that. I wonder if he'll ever admit this to Snape but I believe
that now , after Sirius's death , Lupin might find the courage to
make his peace with Snape. Sirius with his hatred for Snape
influenced Lupin as well as he did Harry !
