Although the fact that Snape is apparently not on the tapestry is a
strong point, I'm not convinced. Are half-bloods even allowed in
Slytherin? IIRC, the Longbottoms aren't mentioned either; possibly
Sirius was just trying to shrug off his ugly bloodline.
Also, like Hitler, Voldemort seems to value only those whose
backgrounds are distinctly *different* from his. He wants to kill
mudbloods, why would he confide in one? More likely he would resent
seeing his own "weakness" toadying around him and simply kill any
half-bloods who dared to try and join him.
Mr. Snape's abuse of Mrs. Snape could have many interesting
ramifications that don't involve racial mixing. For instance, young
Severus, feeling powerless to stop the abuse, could simply be taking
his frustration on the only people lower on the totem pole than him -
mudbloods. As a side note, my theory is that Snape's extensive
range of jixes and hexes was acquired for the purpose of protecting
his mother, but that he couldn't manage to do it.
Personally, I think Snape is basically a guy who felt totally
powerless through most of his life, and was lured to Voldemort by
the promise of power. Anyone want to supply a relevant Star Wars
quote? :)
