You forgot something...even MORE sickening...when confronted by
Harry, once they forgot they were supposed to be defending themselves
Sirius and Lupin started happily reminiscing about the event. Harry
AGAIN brings them back by mentioning Lily and asking why she
eventually started dating James. He's told it was because he had
finally stopped hexing everyone just "because he could".
the dialog continues along the lines of...
"Even Snape?"
"Ah well he was a special case..." Sirius makes it QUITE plain that
the abuse continued. WHY? Because "Snivellus" was a "Little Oddball".
And besides, Lily didn't KNOW.

I am absolutely SURE Severus did awful things to defend himself and
get even. That does NOT excuse bullying to this extent. Where the
HELL were their Heads of Houses?

> And what does Snape get for his trouble again? Harry blaming
> Sirius's death on him! Does he ever get a break from anybody?

That absolutely spoiled the quite nice scene near the end of the book
for me. The return of McGonnogal, the house points, the lines
What are you doing, Potter? Trying to decide what hex to use on
Malfoy, Sir. (which made me laugh out loud) were blown right out of
the water by Harry's "never forgive him..." soliliquy. Snape saved
Harry yet again--and all his buddies. He told Black to stay put which
would have saved him. So it's his fault, of course.
Normally I'd say "Oh he's grieving. He'll figure it out."
Unfortunatly the pattern here is quite different.
