Fourth: Why does McGonagall never call Harry "Harry"? She always
 calls him Potter.

 Taryn:
I think this just has to do with the teacher-student relationship.
Although they certainly like each other (Harry complains about
homework, but not really about McGonagall, and never seems to think
she's a bad teacher or a mean person, and McGonagall seems to like
Harry well enough as a student), it's a very unpersonal, professional
relationship. And she seems to keep this standard for all students.

Me:
I completely agree. What's more is, I always thought that all the
professors refer to their students either by their last name or as
Mr. or Miss So-and-So (with the exception of Dumbledore, who at least
refers to Harry as Harry); at least, I don't remember any other prof.
ever using a first name to address a student. I thought this was
perhaps in keeping with what is typical in British schools...or
boarding schools...or something that is not an American public
school, where you are almost always referred to as your first name
(at least in mine). But maybe a Brit can confirm whether this is
true or just my imagination.
