I thought the same thing, like maybe it was just a teleportation
device, and maybe he would come out somewhere else, like that cabinet
the twins pushed that Slytherin boy into. I was SO hoping taht would
be the case. Unfortunately, when I re-read the last 4 chapters, and
got to the part when Dumbledore is talking to that moron Fudge, he
said that the Death Eaters were restrained in the Chamber of Death.
My guess would be that since that room looked similar to the
courtroom from earlier, that this was a room for execution, and that
the curtain leads straight to death. Nice, painless, creepy. But
they probably don't use it anymore since they became more enlightened
and used the dementors to suck the happiness out of you (insert
sarcasm here)because that is so much nicer, painless, and less
creepy. Oh, and the "he'd see Sirius again" I think was just him
wanting to die to join Sirius.
