Also, isn't it possible that the Sorting Hat overlooked Tom Riddle's
mixed heritage due to his status as a descendant of Salazar
Slytherin? In fact, if TR was sorted into Slytherin despite his
Muggle father, that might have been what twigged him onto seeking
out his forefathers in the first place; he might have been curious
as to *why* he ended up where he did.
