Now me:
He told her TWICE. Page 134, PoA: "Stand aside, you silly
girl...stand aside, now..."
She didn't. He blasted her away.
That does not indicate to me, as I've stated many times, any
extraordinary effort to spare her. Sure, it's more than James got,
but it isn't indicative of any real "I must spare the woman" feeling
on his part.
The theory I like is that he had an inkling that killing her might be
problematic, but, underestimating that ancient magic he doesn't
respect, figured he could handle whatever came of it. Whoops.
Dummyhead Voldie!
But no, I don't think he made any special effort.

Now me:
This is an excellent question. Did anyone else get a real "Minority
Rpeort" vibe with the sphere-like prophecies?
I like the automatically recorded idea. Another suggestion was that D-
Dore should have gone in there and smashed the thing.
My guess is that a prophecy as important as the fall of Voldemort
probably would have been missed. I'm surprised it's not on display at
a museum, actually, because most of the WW (and certainly the powers-
that-be) felt V-Mort was dead.

Sphere-Like Prophecies is mine.
