I alternated between being really miffed at Molly and feeling, well,
not sorry for her, but sympathetic towards her. As far as her
function in the Order - good question. I remember at the end of GoF
I thought that we'd see a different side to Molly. That there was
some hidden aspect about her that we'd find out about. Didn't happen.

I didn't like her at all in the dinner scene at Grimmauld Place. She
clearly sees Sirius as a rival for Harry's affections, and is
unwilling to grant that he has both a duty to Harry, as godfather,
and also has his own affection for him. To Molly's mind, that
doesn't count. At all. After all, he's been in prison all this time
so how could his good intentions possibly equal Molly's?

Her reaction may be understandable in that she does have genuine love
for Harry, and probably feels she's entitled because she has had a
longer period actually being in Harry's life. But, I thought she was
out of line throwing Azkaban at Sirius.

But, on the other hand, she is so hurt by Percy's behavior. Of
couse, she was the one Weasley who never seemed to think Percy was an
insufferable git. But, I also wonder how much her current loss of
Percy reflects her feelings on *him*, or if they are more about the
loss of the perfect person she saw in him (Prefect, Head Boy, good
grades, blah, blah, blah...) She's such a contrast to Mrs. Black,
who was probably thrilled that her blood traitor son left.

Molly continues to seem to have a view of the twins that is different
that what she shows for her other children, at least the ones still
living at home. It's almost like they're from a different family, and
just happen to be living under her roof. I don't mean to imply that
she doesn't love them, but I don't recall her (in any of the books)
showing the same level of gushy affection that she had for her other
kids. I suppose they've been a trial for her from the start as
trouble-makers, and have been so persistent, that maybe she's given
up trying to change them.

The whole boggart scene revealed such deep, horrible fears for her
children. That got to me. Was that fear so powerful that she simply
couldn't riddikulus the boggart away? It was almost disturbing in how
completely paralyzed she was. Well, she's in for a rough time in the
worry department with this new war starting.

Marianne, who would find Molly's mothering style annoying, but would
take her any day over Mrs. Black!
