It's obvious that Snape was completely minding his own business,
before he was attacked by James and Sirius. It's also obvious that
they were already watching him during the examination, when Sirius
tells him that they (the professors) won't be able to read his paper,
because his nose was touching it. I think it is possible that they
were slightly jelous of Snape's academic achievements. But to attack
someone becuase of their physical appearance, and simply becuase they
exist, I find completely disgusting... I just can't help thinking that
Snape didn't defend himself very well, but then again, he was outnumbered!
