Am I alone in thinking that the chances for Harry to survive the
series in remarkably slim? When looking at any piece of epic fantasy,
you see that the main hero just can't settle into a normal life after
doing some major heroics. Trust me, I really do hope that I'm wrong
in this and that JKR won't choose to go down the same classical road
that so many before her have taken. I believe, though, that what
we're looking at is going to be an ending where, probably, Harry
defeats LV at great cost and dies by wounds sustained to him. (I
don't believe some of the LotR-esque theories I've heard, where Harry
fails in the end and Neville handily hands LV's behind to him, which
he could ahve never done without Harry's help in teaching him, etc.)
If Harry /does/ stay alive, I haven't a clue what kind of job he
could take. It /would/ be good to make him be the DADA teacher, so
that finally Hogwarts will have a teacher who stays longer than a
year. (I sincerely doubt JKR is going to break that tradition in
books 6 and 7). He'd make an amazing Auror, but, in JKR's style, I
can see him aspiring to become it and then decide not to do it on the
last minute. Personally, I think he'd suck at being Minister of Magic
and would have a terrible time doing that. Arthur Weasley would make
a great MoM, and I believe it will be given to him. Harry just won't
be happy dealing with all that administrative stuff. He wants to be
out in the field, showing his valiance by the sword/wand rather than
by the pen. DADA-teacher is the only exception I can think of (and
eventually Headmaster), but I really can't see Harry being happy with
a desk-job, in the, imho, highly unlikely occurance of him surviving
through the denouement of Book 7 in the first place.
In other, related, queries: Has any concensus been reached on whether
or not Ron is going to survive the series? Seeing as to his proximity
to Running Weasel, who was a brilliant leader, never lost a chess-
game, and was killed by his pet rat (turned yellow), I'd say his
chances are slim, but we can, of course hope. I'm sure this topic has
been discussed here at length, but I'd like to see what the
experienced opinions are.
Thanks :)
