But "Moody" wasn't using the Cruciatus curse on the students - he had 
some spiders. Neville became upset because of his parents and had to 
leave after watching the impact the curse had on the spiders. Plus 
then "Moody" made it up to him by inviting his to his office and 
giving him the book about Magical plants and their uses (I think 
that's when he gave him the book, haven't read it for a while), 
so "Moody" wasn't really showing his "true" colours at all.
