Since Hufflepuff takes who's left, if Zacharias isn't brave or 
intelligent or ambitious, he'd be a Hufflepuff. Besides, he might be a 
good worker with a sharp tongue.

We are not told what year he is in, only that he is a member of the 
Hufflepuff Quidditch team. That doesn't make him a 5th year student. 
Besides, there are still two girls in Harry's house and year that 
continue to be unnamed. If Harry hasn't noticed them in 5 years, why 
would he notice Zach?
