Kelly:
Jenny has a point there about not getting out of the habit of saying it. I
also see Snape's usage of the term just natural for him. He has never had
cause to think of him as Lord Voldemort since the people he associates with
always call him the Dark Lord. As for the scene with Snape and Harry and
the usage of Lord Voldemort, here's the scene from the book. (p. 532 US
edition)
"How come I saw through the snake's eyes if it's Voldemort's thoughts
I'm sharing?"
"*Do not say the Dark Lord's name!*" spat Snape.
There was a nasty silence. They glared at each other across the
Pensieve.
"Professor Dumbledore says his name," Harry said quietly.
"Dumbledore is an extremely powerful wizard," Snape muttered. "While
*he* may feel secure enough to use the name...the rest of us..." He rubbed
his left forearm, apparently unconsciously, on the spot where Harry knew the
Dark Mark was burned into his skin.
To me, he is saying that D can use the name because he is powerful enough to
deal with V, whereas the rest of them are not. But he is also rubbing the
Mark. This, coupled with his reaction to D asking him to do his task if he
was ready, if he was prepared, tells me that Snape is still afraid of V. He
won't speak his name nor does he like to hear it spoken by most others
because of that fear. In that, he's very much like most others in the WW,
like Ron, who shudder at hearing Voldemort's name. I never perceived his
outcries to not use the name as indicative that he thinks it's blasphemous,
just that he does not like hearing it. After all, this is the same guy who
physically throws Harry out of the room based on a memory that could rival
those he has seen in Harry's head. And even Ron has begged Harry more than
once not to use the name.
