Good observation! I forgot about the Lovegoods near Ottery St.
Catchpole. Ginny might also know Luna from a shared class. Maybe
Ginny's year shares Potions with the Ravenclaws?

I think if Luna were their cousin, the Weasley's would have
acknowledged it. On the other hand, Ron never mentioned Sirius was
Arthur's second cousin once removed. But then, Luna isn't a reputed
murderer, betrayer of the Potters and alleged Death Eater...

Intersting thing about Luna was her comment to Hermione "just because
you're too narrow minded and need everything shoved under your
nose..." I think it gives Luna the edge because she can think outside
of the box, ponder the inponderable(sp?). For example, the thestrals.
Luna could see them since she first came to Hogwarts. Thestrals
aren't in their textbook (or my copy of) "Fantastic Beasts". If Harry
or Luna were to tell Hermione of the thestrals, she would look them
up in "Fantastic Beasts", find there are no record of them and
conclude Harry and Luna are hallucinating, because they "don't
exist". But they do, despite the fact they are not included
in "Fantastic Beasts".
