I am still not convinced that he did. I know Dumbledore said so, but 
canon also said, that both parents, the Potters and the Longbottoms, 
were able to fight Voldemort three times. Not some Death Eaters, but 
Voldemort. Of course it could have been in a fight between the 
Longbottoms and Voldemort, or he tried to kill them because they were 
Aurors, but it could as well have been, because Neville is the 
second "Prophecy Boy", and he just wants to make sure to get both.
